The pilot is an idiot.. First rule of thumb ” Kill the engines” after a belly landing wether on water Ice a mountain or what have you the last thing you need is an explosion and burning fuel to kill you.

It amazes me how …
It amazes me how much and how little a turbine can take. Ive seen ducks, coats, hats and helmets go into intakes without damaging the engine. On the other hand I have seen car keys, styrofoam cups and chunks of wood destroy one as well.

It gets better. Williams International and/or Rolls Royce (I forget which) recovered both engines and they still ran. Whoever it was had them mounted on a test stand and uses them as a marketing prop (or at least they did as of January 2007)
IIRC the hot section was pretty ate up from all the water going through it, but the rest of the engine was not too bad off. There was a video circulating for awhile that had pictures of the inspection.
