why do people argue … why do people argue so much about other people’s life. You can see it over and over again on each aircraft video.

I know what you … I know what you mean its just that everyone refers to it as the VOR and you are right the PAPI are all white but still did a good job

And you’re right, … And you’re right, of course. Being high on both GS (and therefore PAPI) means you’re gonna be leaving lots of runway behind!
kimiles1 on
July 18th, 2009 7:27 pm
Yes, but the VOR … Yes, but the VOR system has nothing to do with GS. The GS needle is overlaid on the CDI in the VOR display so that you don’t have to cross-reference your vertical and horizontal situation between two instruments. GS is GS. VOR is VOR.
And the absolute dead giveaway is of course the four whites blazing on the PAPI.

when you are on a … when you are on a ILS approach the glideslope is on the VOR and you were high because at a time the glide slope needle was fully deflected down

VOR doesn’t … VOR doesn’t indicate altitude. That’s the glideslope needle.

It depends fayik. … It depends fayik. Apart from guaranteeing adequate distance in most cases to slow down safely on the runway, the touchdown zones are strengthened in relation to the central section of the runway as they have to take the force of impact when the aircraft touches down.
It’s not that you can’t touchdown beyond the zone, it’s just not recommended in most cases. Best to do a go around and try again.

how much does it … how much does it cost to have a cessna 172 serviced? I can’t find information anywhere on maintainence costs. HAve you gotta be rich to afford the upkeep of these airplanes. I guess if you love flying its best to become a commercial pilot and get paid to do what you love and live for

Not a good idea … Not a good idea using approach chart as a blinder. Your saftey pilot would have a hard time seeing trafic off the port side. Foggles work great and they’re cheep. Stay safe!

WTF does that have … WTF does that have to do with anything??, if he’s simulating IMC he needs attitude indication, the glideslope and localizer give no such indication and flying in IMC with an out of position AI is not legal…

Looks like a nicely … Looks like a nicely equipped Cessna you are training in! It’s good that you’re doing this with the “steam gauges”…you can always transition to the “glass” later on!
Except for traffic conflicts, covering the window is a good way to simulate IMC. In the military with a tandem seat trainer, you can easy pull the curtains where the student sits and really isolate him/her from the world without blocking the instructor’s view.
Happy flying!
