Lovebird Breeder Flight Training
November 1, 2009
This shows you how we trained our wild lovebird breeders how to fly to us when we give them treat stimulation. They are, of course, a lot tamer now that we have been working with them for nearly 2 years! It’s also another part of the taming process.
These are BeBe & Evee’s parents, Dewey & Sierra.

It should motivate you. 2 years is nothing, and when they are tame, you will not remember how they used to be.

I admire your patience, what a great owner you have to be. I recently have one lovebird, he steps up on my finger and eats from my hand if he’s really hungry, but otherwise he ‘s so scared , really scared, do you recognise this behaviour ? Greetz from Belgium!

Great work, and …
Great work, and great vid! We find our budgie is not motivated by food at all, so we are left with: praise… It works, but is not as effective as food rewards and takes longer. Of course there is no problem getting the budgie into the cage, but with our finch, we have had to do some pretty consistent training and we still don’t have it completely down pat… Your breeders respond extremely well: again, great work!

I didn’t understand …
I didn’t understand why it was such a big deal that your breeders are tame. That is, until my 2 lovebirds started mating and then I gave them a nest box. They are like Jekyll and Hyde! They have gotten very protective, and not so nice… I think if their eggs hatch and they have babies this will be the only time! I dont like them acting that way! So for anyone who thinks “whats so great about that?” Trust me, it is a huge deal that these breeders are so tame!
