Cessna 172 Take-off and Landing – Statesville, NC

May 19, 2010

Today I took my sister and two of her friends up to look at the lake by my parents house. The airport in the video is Statesville Regional Airport (KSVH), in NC, and the airplane is a Cessna 172 (N737YF). At the time of the video, I had 64 hours of total flight time logged.

OMG, I used to fly a Cessna 172 which was the exact same color as the one you are flying. Your video brought back some sweet memories. Also, my Dad was born and raised in Statesville! Thanks dude for giving me a bittersweet reason to smile.

Thanks for uploading. My toddler loves this video. We live in the Lake Norman area and took him up to Statesville Regional but there was no air traffic unfortunately. The aerial view of Statesville is quite beautiful.

ok, why dont you post a video of yourself flying a traffic pattern in an A380.

good flying, way to keep it professional and not scare the passengers.

  9. taepodong1101 on May 19th, 2010 6:05 am

this is shit, A380 is the real plane.

As with anything, it takes time and effort to learn. There were parts (like actually flying!) that were fun to learn, and so those parts didn’t seem hard. Other parts (like studying regulations) just took repetition to commit to memory, and so those parts seemed hard.

If you want to learn to fly, work out how to pay for the lessons first; learning to fly is expensive. One tip is: If you do a lot of learning on your own, it can easily save you $1000 in rental fees.

lol, this is yankee fox plane right? this is the plane i trained in! great plane.

In the video I was in the “traffic pattern” of the runway, so I was about 900 ft above ground level (AGL) at 2:45. For this flight, I think I was cruising at about 1500 ft AGL because we were sight seeing. I could be wrong though, this was long ago and I’m forgetting.

    Why do you ask?

  14. EricSala97 on May 19th, 2010 8:40 am

    what was your cruising altitude???

  15. vac4042 on May 19th, 2010 8:42 am

lol thats 2450 not 3450, but still…over the limit.

    Nice video.

    I started training in a 172.

  17. SlyckDood on May 19th, 2010 10:37 am

Good flight man..did you start training in a 172 or 152?

  18. tom67264 on May 19th, 2010 10:52 am

I have seen Heavy Aircraft skid tires at touch down, but they are doing about
100+….something, I wanna take lessons some day, I have FSX on here and have Saitek Flight Control System, Elevator/Aliaron like in real planes, rudder control on floor, throttle/mix/trim…its a blast!!

  19. Phillip095 on May 19th, 2010 11:28 am

I don’t think so. I screeched the tires while trying to get the max breaking out of the tires.

  20. tom67264 on May 19th, 2010 11:47 am

like one said before, if you walk away its a great landing. did you have the toe brakes on a bit before touch down?

  21. jonchall8 on May 19th, 2010 12:23 pm

So yes, worry about weight and balance.

  22. jonchall8 on May 19th, 2010 1:11 pm

    “really no need for w&b”
“sister and two of her friends”
    “cessna 172″

Alright. The 30 year old cessna 172 I’ve been flying has a max gross takeoff weight of 2300.
    Empty weight 1530.
    Assuming a 180lb and a 140lb person in front, and 2 140lb persons in the back: 2130
    54 gallons of fuel: 320lb
    total: 3450
Assuming NO baggage, you’re already well over the limit.
Now, on a newer 172 the limit is 2600lbs. However, if you add a 100lb bag in the baggage compartment, that puts your cg aft of limits.

I love the registration on your 172

  24. Fatjohnny1 on May 19th, 2010 2:08 pm

Haha well for the landing, you know what they say: A good landing is one that you can walk away from. An excellent landing is one where you can reuse the aircraft. haha! I cant wait ’till i get my license, im taking the ground school now!

  25. orunmila on May 19th, 2010 2:29 pm

That plane was quite light … the takeoff run was completed with tons of runway left, really no need for w&b, though it’s a good habit to cultivate anyway.

Got something to say?
