Arizona CardinalsBeing rated as the oldest continuous professional American football club in the United States, The Cardinals was formed in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago. Originally located in Normal Park, the club was then called the Racine Normals. After they started wearing dark reddish uniforms, inherited from the collegiate Chicago Maroons, they then changed their name to the Racine Cardinals. After becoming a charter member of the NFL in 1920, the club was renamed the Chicago Cardinals. In 1944, during the lean years of World War II, the Cardinals temporarily became one franchise with the Pittsburgh Steelers and usually referred to as Card-Pitt, for that one season. In 1960, the Cardinals moved to St. Louis, Missouri becoming the St. Louis Cardinals. After an unsuccessful campaign, the club relocated to the Phoenix metropolitan area in 1988, first playing at Sun Devil Stadium in the suburb of Tempe. The team was known as the Phoenix Cardinals before it started using “Arizona” in its name in 1994.Currently based in Glendale, Arizona, the Cardinals are at present members of the Western Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL).The Cardinals were NFL Champions in 1925 and 1947 and last played for the NFL title in 1948. However, the team currently holds the NFL record for the longest championship drought and the only one that did not appear in a conference championship game. The team has also won only two division titles (1974 and 1975) since their 1947 NFL championship. Despite being the oldest existing professional football franchise in the United States, the Cardinals have a remarkably lean postseason history. In 1998, they did win a Wild Card game against the Dallas Cowboys which forced the team’s motivated writer and sports blogger Will Leitch, to sarcastically refer to the franchise as “The Buzzsaw that is the Arizona Cardinals.” The team’s vainness has also been attributed to a curse placed onto the team because their 1925 title was the result of a disputed, controversial ruling by the NFL.The Cardinals are the oldest existing football club in the United States, beginning as an amateur athletic club team in Chicago in 1898. The Cardinals conduct their annual summer training camp at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Early in the 20th century (by 1913), the team turned professional. The Utah JazzThe Utah Jazz is a National Basketball Association team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are currently one of the five teams in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association -NBA. The Jazz were one of the most successful teams in the late 1980s and 1990s, making it to two NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998 under Coach Jerry Sloan. John Stockton and Karl Malone were considered two of the best players in history at their positions and among the best two-player combinations of all time. The Jazz were originally the New Orleans Jazz, but were financially unsuccessful and moved to Utah. In 1974 the franchise began in New Orleans but proved unsuccessful, both on the court and financially. Even after the addition of ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich as the star player and Maravich who was viewed as one of the NBA’s most entertaining and talented players, they were continually a losing team. After five losing seasons in New Orleans, the franchise moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1979. Since, the City was known more as a center for Mormon culture than as a mecca for jazz music, the team nickname i.e. the Jazz, was not fitting for the Salt Lake City. The franchise decided to keep it. In Utah, they would continue to languish toward the bottom of the standings until the 1983-1984 season, when the team eventually succeeded capturing the Midwest Division Title. This win led them to advance e to the second round of the playoffs. For more information about Arizona Cardinals visit : http://www.arizona-cardinals-nfl.com/
