Michael Thiele demonstrates his Hardwood Tongue Drums at House of Musical Traditions
April 27, 2011
Michael Thiele, maker of “Hardwood Music” tongue drums, visited House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD on December 9 2010. In this video, Michael demonstrates a jumbo 12-key drum and a 14-key drum. The video concludes with some good-natured ribbing of HMT owner David Eisner (he and Michael have been friends for years). On the right is longtime HMT employee Stream Ohrstrom, who is also a maker, repairer and teacher of drums and folk flutes. HMT has been selling Hardwood drums for over 30 years. Michael Thiele and his son Joah Thiele make these instruments (also called slit drums or log drums) by hand in their shop in Flagstaff, AZ. They use beautiful hand-selected domestic and exotic (non-endangered) hardwoods, and tune each model precisely to a specific scale. These drums are used extensively throughout the recording industry by major performing artists (including Ben Harper). They are widely recognized as the “Strad” of tongue drums. Anything less is just a box! View HMT’s online catalog of Hardwood drums at www.hmtrad.com For more information about Hardwood, visit www.hardwoodmusic.net

Skiing Maine Huts and Trails
April 26, 2011
I had a great time skiing into Flagstaff Hut in the Maine Huts and Trails hut system. The trail is groomed, but it still has that back-country feel that I get when I trailblaze into the woods. The hut is beautiful and nestled in the trees on the shore of Flagstaff Lake with amazing views of the Bigelow Mountains. The staff were friendly and showed me all of the sustainable features. As a bonus, the food was great. A special thanks goes out to Brittany and Quinn of Maine Huts and Trails (www.mainehuts.org) as well as Dave Bullard and Kevin McLeod for the music. Check out arteriesofamerica.wordpress.com for other adventures around the country.

Provflygning Hype Cessna 182 Skylane RTF 2,4GHz
April 24, 2011
