Revelations at the Grand Canyon
May 19, 2011
Some rather amusing bible quotes read from a peninsula in the Grand Canyon. Sunday 19th July 2009-07-19 Up before sunrise, picked up a V. expensive mcdonalds breakfast just short of the park (6.50 bux for a breakfast meal) I was in a hurry. Shocked when found the gates manned before 6am. However apparently the national parks are free for the weekend this summer as a part of the stimulus package, although the guy on the gate said it had made precious little difference to the number of guests they had seen. The first stop was the visitors center, PACKED. V. windy, didnt even go in. Headed on down the canyon to what seemed a quiet place. Got out on a little peninsula, some very exposed moments. Went back and got laptop for a timelapse. Spent a couple of hours just enjoying the scenery and reading good bits from the bible. Over this time the wind dropped to the point where I could fly the plane. Went exploring along the canyon rim and found a place that looked pretty good. Long way from anyone, and view looked good. Went back, got the plane and packed up the timelapse. Spent a long time trying to figure out how to do this. The ridge had cliffs on both sides. Great for flybys but impossible for landing and dangerous for launch. Eventually elected to fly from the canyon rim (of a sort) after deciding on a landing path. Flight went fantastically, however for the landing I ran into trouble. When bringing the plane in, I had to keep the speed up for stability and steerability …
“Day 3 – Grand Canyon” Tdotte’s photos around Grand Canyon, United States
May 2, 2011
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Grand Canyon, United States by TravelPod blogger Tdotte titled “Day 3 – Grand Canyon”. TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Tdotte’s travel blog entry: “On Monday, we decided to drive the four hours north to the Grand Canyon. We headed out and soon drove north on I-17 towards Flagstaff. Since this is my first visit to Arizona, I was surprised to see green landscape when we entered the Verde Valley about 45 minutes north of the hotel. No, it was not a green as a mountain valley in North Carolina, but the cactii was gone and it was replaced with low trees and shrubs. A quick stop along I-17 and we were in Flagstaff. About 2000 ft higher than the Verde Valley and it felt like driving in the mountains back home. There were trees were on both sides of the road and green grass in the median. You could easily see the Arizona Snow Bowl and the peaks still had snow covering. We eventually made it to the Grand Canyon and the 50 mph wind gusts due to a approaching front. The views were outstanding, but the blowing dust created a haze in the canyon and made it difficult to see. Any time spent outside the car and you ended up covered in dust. Since we took AZ 64 to the east entrance, we passed by the Little Colorado River Gorge on the Navajo Reserveration. Yes, there is a two dollar entrance fee, but it is worth the $2 dollars for the views of the gorge. Not as big as the Grand Canyon, but still worth it. Also, AZ 64 follows the …

Train Ride To The Grand Canyon
March 21, 2011
In February 2008, my husband took me on a trip to the Grand Canyon. We didn’t expect any snow there – living in Seattle, we assumed that it’s always warm in Arizona. To our surprise, we got snowed in in Flagstaff and only got to see the Grand Canyon thanks to the Grand Canyon train that leaves from Williams, AZ. It was quite an experience!

world’s highest bridge at 4000ft high called the grand canyon sky walk
February 6, 2011
The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a unique glass-bottomed cantilever bridge that spans 70 feet (21.34 meters) over the Grand Canyon’s rim and sits 4000 feet (1219 meters) above the Colorado River. Completed in March of 2007, the Skywalk at Grand Canyon West has quickly become one of the best day trip destinations from Las Vegas, NV and Kingman, AZ and has become the most recognizable cantilever structure in the world. Open 365 days a year, the Skywalk has been visited by nearly 1 million people from 6 continents and over 50 countries from around the world giving all of them the absolute best view of the Grand Canyon unmatched anywhere else. David Jin, a Las Vegas based tour operator and entrepreneur who has been involved with the Hualapai Nation for some time, had the idea of extending a platform out over the edge of the Grand Canyon and formally presented the idea for the Skywalk to the Tribe in 1996 and funded the construction of the project. The original concept for the Skywalk design was a rectangular platform extending straight out over the rim of the canyon. That idea evolved into a “U” shaped walkway that has now been constructed. The operation of the Skywalk is managed by Grand Canyon Skywalk Development, LLC. and after operational expenses; the profits are split between the Hualapai Nation and David Jin. The Skywalk is expected to contribute to the long term benefit of the Hualapai Nation and has already become a world famous attraction even before completion of the …
Grand Canyon – RV Today
December 30, 2010
The Grand Canyon is an international travel destination that attracts millions of visitors every year. The canyon proves a good starting point for visitors to see in Northern Arizona as there are historic sites, route 66, the Navajo nation and more. The city of Flagstaff is a great place to set up camp. The historic downtown area is wrapped around Route 66. Not far away from the downtown area is the famous Lowell Observatory where visitors can get a glimpse of the far reaches of outer space. If you like to view nature scenery here on Earth there is the Arboretum Flagstaff located just outside the city. For the RVer there are several parks to settle down at including Black Barts RV Park located of I-40. Not only is Black Barts a RV park it also has a steak house and musical revue. Just outside of Flagstaff is their sister city historic Williams where its downtown is on Route 66. Williams thrived on the traffic funneled in by Route 66 through the central part of town, and now it relishes in the nostalgia of the famed road. The favorite watering hole of the town is Sultana famous for being the longest continuous holder of a liquor license in the state. What Williams is best known for is being the gateway to the Grand Canyon.
