Passenger lands turboprop plane after pilot dies

TAMPA, Fla. – Doug White and his family had just enjoyed a smooth takeoff and were ascending through the clouds when the pilot guiding their twin-engine plane tilted his head back and made a guttural sound. The retired jet pilot, Joe Cabuk, was unconscious. And though White had his pilot’s license, he had never flown a plane as large as this. “I need help. I need a King Air pilot to talk to. We’re in trouble,” he radioed. Sixteen-year-old Bailey cried. Eighteen-year-old Maggie threw up. White, 56, landed the plane on his own about 30 minutes later, coaxed through the harrowing ordeal by air traffic controllers who described exactly how to bring the aircraft to safety. The pilot died, but White somehow managed. White had logged about 150 hours recently flying a single-engine Cessna 172 but had no experience flying the faster, larger King Air. He declared an emergency to air traffic controllers — White already knew how to use the radio. On Sunday afternoon, he got his first lesson landing the larger craft. Audio Tape Of Plane Crash In Arizona

2 killed in plane crash near I-17 outside Flagstaff FLAGSTAFF, AZ — Two people who died when a small plane crashed in northern Arizona Friday morning have been tentatively identified. Frank Protiva, 47, and 58-year-old Thomas Moody, both of Flagstaff, were believed killed in the crash. Gerry Blair from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said the plane crashed eight miles south of Flagsta More..ff Airport, just west of Interstate 17, around 7 am Officials received a call from a DPS Commander who was driving south on the Interstate in the area of Newman Park when he apparently observed a small aircraft that appeared to be experiencing engine problems. Audio tapes from FlagScanner.com recorded that message. The DPS Commander said he heard the engine sputtering, watched as the aircraft struck a tree, then heard the loud sound of a collision. The DPS Commander initiated a ground search and was reportedly aided by Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies and other responding public safety agencies. Federal Aviation Administration officials said the plane is a Cessna 210. The crash will be investigated by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board. The plane was apparently owned by Protiva and the identifying tail number matches the plane to one that left the airport earlier in the morning, according to Blair. Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives said they have learned that Mr. Protiva and Mr. Moody planned to fly out of Flagstaff Friday morning with a destination of Yuma …

New York Plane Crash Flight Instructor Tyler Stanger Memory

Tyler Chase Stanger was the the flight instructor of the New York plane crash with Cory Lidle. It deeply dissappointed me when I typed in “Cory Lidle” and hundreds of tribute dedication videos came up. Yet when I typed in “Tyler Stanger”, my search beared no results. This video is dedicated to him, his wife, Stephanie(my sister), his daughter, Ashlund, his son, Powell, and his mourning family. If you would like to find out more information on Tyler Stanger, go to stangers.us Don’t worry, no pop-ups or spyware. Now here’s a biography quoted from stangers.us: Friendships were important to Tyler. Cory Lidle was one of those special people to him. Anyone in Tyler’s circle of friends knew there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them or with them. Cory would call Tyler in the middle of the night for answers to the questions on his ground school portion of his flight training. Tyler was happy to get up and come to the phone and teach him in the middle of the night. They traveled together from time to time and their wives became fast friends. Tyler, Stephanie and Ashlund had traveled to New York City to vacation together with Cory and his family. Stephanie shares that they had a marvelous time together and Cory saw a lot of New York that he was unable to see during the baseball season. Tyler also had a Pilatus flight to Ogden, Utah the week before where he had dinner and visited with his brothers, sister and grandparents in Utah. It will remain a special time to remember as …
